The City of Aurora and the Aurora Fire Department announced on March 16 that they will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 19, to mark the opening of two new fire stations.
The event is significant as it introduces Station 13, the city’s first fire station north of Interstate 88, and relocates Station 9 to a new site. These additions are expected to improve emergency response times for residents, particularly in Aurora’s Northeast Side.
The ceremony will begin at Station 13 at 1701 Bilter Road at 9 a.m., followed by Station 9 at its new location at 500 N. Eola Road at 11 a.m. Both stations were completed in less than two years after breaking ground and feature updated layouts designed for safer and more efficient operations. Specialized ventilation systems have been installed for firefighter gear and vehicle exhausts, along with washers and dryers intended to reduce carcinogen exposure from firefighting activities.
Interim Fire Chief Kevin Nickel said, “Opening Station 13 and relocating Station 9 reinforces the City’s commitment to keeping its residents safe through enhanced response times. This historic occasion is the result of years of planning, hard work, and support. We are very excited to showcase both stations, and will continue to provide excellent emergency services to the community.”
Members of the public and media are invited to attend tours immediately following each ribbon cutting.
