Kane County Legislative Committee met Sept. 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Call To Order 

Co-Chair Linder called the meeting to order at 10:38 AM. 

2. Roll Call 

PRESENT Board Member Michael Linder 

Board Member Mavis Bates 

Board Member Myrna Molina 

Board Member Monica Silva 

Board Member Cherryl Strathmann 

Ex-Officio County Board Chair Corinne M. Pierog 

Ex-Officio County Board Vice Chair Vern Tepe 

REMOTE Board Member Gary Daugherty 

ABSENT Board Member Michelle Gumz 

Also present: Co. Bd. members Lewis, Roth; KDOT Deputy Dir. Rickert; BLD staff  Files; Spec. ASA Shepro*; ITD staff Peters; and members of the press and public. 

3. Remote Attendance Requests 

Co-Chair Linder announced the remote attendance requests for today's meeting. He  asked if there were any objections for Committee Member Daugherty attending today's  meeting remotely. There were no objections.  

4. Approval of Minutes: July 19, 2023 & September 8, 2023 

RESULT: APPROVED BY VOICE VOTE 

MOVER: Mavis Bates 

SECONDER: Cherryl Strathmann 

5. New Business 

A. Legislative Update 

Co-Chair Linder indicated the State Legislators are not in session. He explained that  the Legislative Committee has been very busy with new tasks from departments.  ITD/BLD Exec. Dir. Fahnestock managed legislative input, along with the assistance of  BLD staff Files. She will be managing the department's data and contact information for  the Kane County's lobbyists, and has constructed a Legislative input form. Linder  emphasized the importance of tracking Legislative bills for the lobbyists. The  Committee will have a chance to provide their input on the form. The form will help the  lobbyists with contact information on the counties issues. The Committee provided a  consensus to allow BLD staff Files to provide clerical and data support for the  Legislative Committee.  

6. Old Business 

Co-Chair Linder stated Bd Member Iqbal has been working diligently on the Fiber Optic  bill. Iqbal has asked the lobbyists to handle this right away. Linder re-capped the  discussions had at the last Special Legislative Committee meeting.  

7. Co-chair Comments 

Committee Member Bates stated that she would like to create an Energy  Environmental Policy Committee.  

8. Executive Session 

No Executive Session was held due to the lack of an Assistant State's Attorney being  present. 

9. Open Session 

A. Vote on the Release of Closed Session Minutes 

RESULT: NO VOTE REQUIRED 

10. Public Comment (Agenda & Non-Agenda Items) 

None. 

11. Adjournment 

RESULT: APPROVED BY VOICE VOTE
