City of Geneva City Council met March 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER

The March 20, 2023 meeting of the Geneva City Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall by Mayor Kevin Burns.

Elected Officials present:

Alderpersons: Mike Bruno, Becky Hruby, Gabriel Kaven, Dean Kilburg, Brad Kosirog, Craig Maladra, Richard Marks, Amy Mayer, Robert Swanson.

Mayor Kevin Burns, City Clerk Vicki Kellick.

Elected Officials attending by video or teleconference: None.

Elected Officials absent: Tara Burghart.

Others Present: City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins, Assistant City Administrator Ben McCready, City Attorney Ron Sandack, Water Division Superintendent Bob Van Gyseghem.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

The pledge was led by Geneva Girl Scout Troop 160.

PUBLIC HEARINGS, SPECIAL ITEMS AND PRESENTATIONS

Welcome Geneva Girl Scout Troop 160 Service Project Participants Mayor Burns welcomed the Geneva Girl Scout Troop 160 to the City Council meeting for the 111th Girl Scout Week. A few of the Girl Scouts introduced themselves at the podium and thanked the Mayor and City Council for having them.

Mayor Burns then spoke about the loss of Geneva Fire Department Deputy Chief Mark Einwich. Deputy Chief Einwich received an associate degree with honors from Elgin Community College and went on to attend the Illinois Fire Service Institute and National Fire Academy. He served as the announcer at Burlington Rockets football games and was known as the “Voice of the Rockets” for 30 years. DC Einwich began his career at the Pingree Grove Fire Department, and later volunteered for the Burlington Fire Department before becoming a dispatcher for the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. He also served as an Elburn policeman before returning home to fire service with the Geneva Fire Department for the next 30 years, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief before retiring in November of 2022. After retirement, he served as Deputy Chief with the Burlington Fire Department. A moment of silence was observed in honor of DC Einwich.

*a. Approve Resolution No. 2023-25 Authorizing the Execution of a Contract with Fowler Enterprises LLC for the Demolition of a Farmhouse Structure Located at 64 N. Peck Road in an Amount Not to Exceed $20,800.00.

*b. Approve Resolution No. 2023-26 Declaring Certain Equipment as Surplus Property.

*c. Approve Resolution No. 2023-27 Authorizing the Execution of a Contract with Dahm Enterprises for Biosolids Disposal Services.

*d. Approve Resolution No. 2023-28 Authorizing the Execution of a Contract with Sewertech LLC for Storm Sewer and Large Diameter Sanitary Sewer Cleaning and Televising in an Amount Not to Exceed $225,000.00.

*e. Approve Resolution No. 2023-29 Waiving Competitive Bidding and Authorizing the Purchase and Installation of Two Variable Frequency Drives at the Waste Water Treatment Plant from Tri-R Systems in an Amount Not to Exceed $24,250.00.

NEW BUSINESS / PUBLIC COMMENT

Ald. Kaven congratulated all the teams, players, and parents of all the Geneva teams whose seasons had ended. He noted that everyone enjoyed the season.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business, moved by Ald. Kosirog to adjourn the Geneva City Council meeting.

MOTION CARRIED by unanimous voice vote of those present.

The meeting adjourned at 7:13 PM.
