District 300 School Board candidate Connie Cain is running for a seat on the board in order to increase student progress.

According to Cain's campaign page, Cain has lived in Illinois her entire life and has called the Village of Gilberts home for 30 years. She and her husband Richard have been happily married for three decades. She served for eight years in the US Army Reserve until being honorably discharged. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from North Central College in Naperville, is an Illinois Licensed Certified Public Accountant and has served as a Tax Policy Advocate for the past six years. She has over 20 years of experience in financial services, including Fraud Investigations and Dispute Resolution, according to her campaign page.

She believes that the School Board, parents, teachers, and staff must come together because the actions of the School Board directly impact the lives of approximately 20,000 students within the district.

Cain previously ran for Illinois State Rep. and even though she wasn't elected, she told Kane County Reporter that talking with people and hearing their concerns gave her the motivation to run for a seat on the school board.

"...I learned many people are deeply disappointed with the way things are working in the state," Cain said. "With the school board, they stated they don't like many of the courses now being pushed and want the focus on academic excellence. People feel there's too much politics being injected into the schools.

Connie believes that her experience in the financial sector would be a valuable asset to the school board.

"I feel our tax dollars are not being used efficiently and that my accounting background could make a difference in terms of making things better," Cain said.

Cain has a son that graduated from the district which gives her more incentive to work with the school district.

"I've always been committed to doing everything I can to make our schools as good as they can be," Cain said.
