Connie Cain is the presumed winner of the tight primary race in the 66th House District.

She took to Facebook to talk to her supporters and provided them with an election update.

"Thank you all for your support and votes," Cain said. "It's been a long ride campaigning for you the PEOPLE to give you the representation that you deserve. We fought hard against the establishment and the primary showed them just that. They spent a lot of money to take us out. Currently we are ahead by 60 votes in Kane and McHenry counties. I'm confident we will win this so we can continue our fight to take Illinois back. I will keep you posted with the results. Thank you and God Bless!”

Cain, of Gilberts, appears to have won the Republican primary in the 66th House District. The unofficial vote tally shows Cain with 3,403 votes compared to opponent Arin Thrower’s 3,339 votes. Cain’s main priority is to eliminate some units of local government such as combining small school districts. Presumed winner, Cain will face incumbent Democrat Suzanne Ness of Crystal Lake in the fall in a district that encompasses parts of West Dundee, Carpentersville, Elgin, Huntley and Lake in the Hills, according to the Daily Herald

As of 12:30 p.m. on June 29, Cain led Thrower by a mere 64 votes with about 95% of the vote counted in the 66th House District, Shaw Local reported. Cain refrained from commenting as the results were not final, but was “excited” about her prospects. Both candidates said they ran to reinstate the parental notification law regarding minors seeking abortions. Additionally, Cain is an accountant who has been involved with the Lincoln Lobby, an institute focusing on government accountability and the economy.

The Daily Herald does not endorse candidates for office if they already hold an office and plan on keeping both offices once elected. They believe that this represents too much power and influence held by one person. For this reason, the paper endorses Connie Cain of Gilberts over Arin Thrower of West Dundee because Thrower is the elected supervisor of West Dundee Township and plans to keep both offices. Also, Cain is a mainstream Republican who opposes abortion, supports the Second Amendment, advocates pension reform amendments and supports school district consolidation. She served in the United States Army Reserves for eight years and was honorably discharged.
