State Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) is supporting the reopening of K-12 public schools in accordance with the new guidelines that the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has issued.

According to the new guidelines, public schools in every district across the state could reopen for in-person instruction as long as the staff members are fully vaccinated. The ISBE also said that they are reducing the social distance parameters from six feet to three for students and teachers.

Wheeler supported the plan and guideline and said that it’s high time for schools to reopen. He said that remote learning is doing little to improve the lives of Illinois children.

Wheeler said that due to remote learning, children are suffering. He said, “I hear from concerned parents every day about how remote learning is taking a toll on their children’s social, emotional, and even physical well-being.”

He continued and thanked local teachers for doing all that they can to keep teaching kids across the state. But he also said that it is time to get their children back to school and he hopes to have all of them studying in-person for the remainder of the year.
