Elgin's Fideliter Club recently donated $20,500 to Food for Greater Elgin, the Daily Herald reported.

The Fideliter Club provided the monetary donation to the food bank in honor of Merrie Meadows, an emeritus member of the club and co-chairman of the board of W.R. Meadows Inc. Meadows, a former Fideliter Club president and chair of the club's Fideliter Charities Ball, is active in several community organizations, the Herald reported.

"We are pleased to continue our support of Food for Greater Elgin," Judy Hanlon, Fideliter Club president, told the newspaper. "It continues our club's direct mission of feeding Elgin-area children. Our recognition of Merrie is an important way we can honor a club member who has truly made a difference in helping us accomplish our goals."

Fideliter's donation to the food bank was done to support the Milk2MyPlate program, according to the article.

"In addition to our club's cash donations, our members volunteer their time each month at one of our designated nonprofits that the club considers partners in their mission," Hanlon told the Herald.

The agency reported that the Fideliter Club is focusing on feeding children in Fox Valley and is proud of that focus.

"Due to this year's pandemic crisis, our long-standing 132nd Fideliter Charities Ball will not be held," Hanlon said. "However, we will continue to support our local charities through the generosity of our devoted sponsors."

The club was founded in 1882 by several women who would gather clothing and food to give to those in need in the community and began a Charity Gala three years later, the article said. Merrie Meadows follows in the footsteps of both her mother, Ruth Meadows, and grandmother, Edna Meadows, in being a Fideliter Club member.
