While an Elgin brewery received an emergency hospitality grant, it does not have plans of reopening yet.

DH Business Ledger reported Dog's Paw Brewing received a grant in April but that it is still closed and does not have plans to reopen as of yet.

After COVID-19 began to spread, the brewery shut down normal operations, only allowing for curbside pickup. It then closed fully on March 21, via a social media announcement on Facebook and Twitter.

Iran Garcia received a $10,000 emergency grant for the business, saying he was planning on using the funding for working capital for his business that consists of himself and five employees. It has not been determined if Garcia’s application after the closure of the business was outside of the rules for applying.

Requirements were that the funding be used on working capital which may include compensation, salaries, wages, tips, paid leave, rent, accounts payable, group health care benefits or training or technology.

Lauren Huffman, spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity said that the individual businesses are in charge of determining the use of the funding, so long as it is in accordance with the aforementioned rules.

"The goal of this program is to help our state's small businesses with the greatest needs receive essential capital funds so that their operations and workers can succeed in spite of the losses faced due to COVID-19," Huffman told DH Business Ledger.

Last year, Garcia had mentioned plans that involved the brewery moving locations to a new address 2601 Pratum Ave. in Hoffman Estates. While the future is uncertain, the original location of the brewery is not reopening.
