Cardiologists are joining the many professions making use of remote technology as they work to track vital health information from patients in Kane County during the COVID-19 pandemic, reports the Kane County Chronicle.

Dr. Michelle Montpetit, heart failure specialist at Northwestern and Kishwaukee Hospital, had some concerns initially about how effective it would be to deal with her patients remotely.

"The patients are asked to take their heart rate, blood pressure and weight at home prior to our visit," Montpetit told the Kane County Chronicle. "The patients are empowered. They are on their own turf, so their blood pressures are often better than they are in the office."

Montpetit said she wishes insurance companies would cover better monitoring equipment for patients at home, but that they have been able to do well with the equipment that is available.

Doctors are even able to make adjustments to medication based on the changes they see from devices monitoring patients, she said. Additionally, they are able to do so without increasing patient exposure to infection.
