City of Batavia Historic Preservation Commission met June 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

1. Meeting Called to Order

Vice-Chair Roller called the meeting to order at 5:47pm.

2. Roll Call

Members Present: Vice-Chair Roller; Commissioners Hohmann, Sherer, Sullivan (arrived at 5:47pm)

Members Absent: Chair Hagemann; Commissioner Bus

Also Present: Jeff Albertson, Building Commissioner; Gary Holm, Director of Public Works; Jennifer Austin-Smith, Recording Secretary

3. Approval of Minutes: May 14, 2018

Motion: To approve the minutes from May 14, 2018

Maker: Sherer

Second: Sullivan

Voice Vote: 4 Ayes, 0 Nays, 2 Absent

Motion carried.

4. Items to be Removed, Added or Changed

There were no items to be removed, added or changed.

5. Matters From the Public (for items not on the agenda)

There were no members from the public to address the Commission.

6. COA Review: 100 North Island Avenue – Window and Door Replacement Revisions

(City of Batavia, applicant)

Lane Allen, Allen and Pepa Architects, addressed the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). Allen distributed a packet of information to the HPC members illustrating the proposed changes to the City Hall entryway including the replaced doorway storefront and new cast stone north and south arch for the Police and City Hall entryways. He showed the HPC the proposed canopy structure for the doorways, though these were not up for approval at this time. The Commission discussed the proposed revisions with Lane Allen and Gary Holm. After discussion a motion was made.

Motion: To accept the COA as submitted

Roll Call Vote: Aye: Hohmann, Sullivan, Roller, Sherer

Nay: None

4-0 Vote, 2 Absent, Motion carried.

7. Updates:

1. 7 East Wilson Street – Historic Inspection

2. Anderson Block Building – Masonry Maintenance

3. Significant Historic Building Inspection Program

4. 10/12 North River Street – Historic Inspection

5. 227 West Wilson Street – Historic Inspection

6. 129 South Batavia Avenue – Historic Inspection

7. 8 North River Street – Historic Inspection

8. 16 East Wilson Street – Historic Inspection

9. Certified Local Government

Albertson reported that inspections have been scheduled for 7 East Wilson Street, 10/12 North River Street, and 8 North River Street. Albertson has met with Mr. Marconi regarding the Anderson Block Building and 16 East Wilson Street. Improvements are being made to both buildings. There is no update for the Certified Local Government.

8. Other Business

Sherer asked about the Driehaus Award application. Albertson answered that Hagemann stated at the May 14th HPC meeting that he would get the application postmarked prior to the deadline.

Albertson has not heard from Hagemann about the application.

Roller asked if the HPC guidelines were reviewed by the State. Albertson answered that he has not heard back from the State. Since the State has been unresponsive, Albertson suggested forwarding the guidelines to the City Council’s Committee of the Whole (COW) for approval.

Roller noted that Hagemann was charged with creating a summary of the changes to the guidelines for submittal to the COW.

9. Adjournment

There being no other business to discuss, Vice-Chair Roller asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:09pm; Made by Sherer; Seconded by Hohmann. Motion carried.
