Hampshire FPD responds to 40 fires in 2016

Hampshire Fire Protection District responded to 310 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Kane County Reporter.

The calls in Hampshire included 40 fires - 19 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $70,666 in fire loss - or about $1,767 per fire.

The department also received 270 false calls, including one malicious call and 269 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Hampshire FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has eight active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $29,383 positive as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $735 for every fire in 2016.
