Analysis: Sales tax funded 3 percent of Village of Sugar Grove budget in 2016

The Village of Sugar Grove's local sales tax brought in $537,868 in 2016, according to Illinois State Comptroller revenue data. Sugar Grove, population 8,997, relied on its local sales tax to contribute 3 percent of total revenue that year.

Sugar Grove levies a 1 percent sales tax. The average of six suburbs in Kane County is 0.83. The high is 1.5 percent; the low is 0.5 percent.

Kane County Reporter analyzed the sales tax collections in six Kane County suburbs and found they generated a total of $13,067,304 in tax revenue in 2016. That was the equivalent of 4% spent by local government.
