Geneva adopts Passport mobile parking pay system

Following a model established in many Chicago suburbs, Geneva will launch a parking payment mobile app called Passport on Monday, Oct. 24, for the convenience of downtown commuters, shoppers and visitors.

Specifically, the platform will be used for the city’s Third Street Commuter Parking Deck and Route 31 overflow parking lot. Motorists can create accounts online using a debit or credit card.

Regular parking rates of $2 at the parking deck and $1.75 in the overflow lot (morning commute to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday) will apply, with each electronic transaction carrying a 37-cent convenience fee. The app is free to download from the iPhone App Store or Android Google Play, and accounts can be handled online at www.ppprk.com.

The parking deck will display instructional signage as well. The city adopted Passport in response to citizen requests. Advantages include not having to scrounge for exact change as well as flexibility in fee payments.

Commuters will still have the option to pay manually, and on-street parking will remain free of charge.

Passport is already in use in 40 different Chicago suburbs, including Evanston, Oak Lawn, Skokie and Oak Park. Passport developers also created ParkChicago, Chicago’s mobile parking application.
