Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 57.6 percent of Larkin High School's (LHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.

The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.

For LHS, its college-enrollment rate remains unchanged since 2014.

Among other high schools in Kane County, the Class of 2015 college-enrollment rates at Bartlett High School (54.3 percent), Hampshire High School (52.6 percent), South Elgin High School (50.6 percent), Dundee-Crown High School (32.4 percent), Streamwood High School (29.9 percent), East High School (19.4 percent) and Elgin High School (25.0 percent) were all lower than that of LHS.

The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.

Enrollment at LHS in 2015 was 1,981; 364 (18.37 percent) were seniors.

ISBE said 22.9 percent of LHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.

All students who score a 21 or higher on the ACT qualify as "college ready."

LHS students did better in reading (21.2 percent) and English (36.7 percent), and worse in science (15.8) and math (21.2).

Only 10.6 percent of LHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
